Interview

Wilew x Joanna Layla

WILEW is a collaboration between myself, Lauren White, and my partner Cat Lewis. The name is an abbreviated amalgamation of our surnames. Both myself and Cat have design backgrounds, in fashion and graphics/art direction respectively.

Joanna, through her visual interpretation, has added an element of storytelling to our brand. She has captured the WILEW muse beautifully and brought her to life. This in itself has been inspiring.

Interview

A Brush of Sensitivity to the Eye and Expressiveness for the Mind by Floortje Selis

"I remember seeing a portrait made by Isaac Israels a couple of years ago in a museum and just being amazed. I started reading about him and his life alongside his rival and inspiration George Breitner."

It is so fascinating and I love that they lived right here, they are even buried here, I feel almost honoured to be so 'close' to them. Their work is something I will always be influenced by. But also (and I know this sounds a bit weird) the pain of knowing I am not as good as the big names. The frustration drives me to go further, try again and again. I need the emotion to drive me crazy, I have to feel. It is my drive.

'Fluidity and Agility, shapes this master of watercolours.' Fida Ambassador Francesco lo Iacono talks with founder Patrick Morgan

Like many creatives, I've been drawing since I was a kid. I think it has been pretty much a constant till my teenage years, right after that I started attending the Fine Arts back in Italy. I got interested in fashion through photography actually, during my last years as a student. So at some point, it felt natural to mix all of my interests.
