Portrait Award:
Several strong contenders in this category but the artist's confidence, subtlety and assurance in building the profile portrait tonally from a black ground really impressed me.
Excellence in Fashion Award:
One of the more difficult categories to choose from but when a retreating figure is captured this beautifully, and with such a minimal palette, it evokes a mystery and romance. The effect is almost ghostly.
Fashion Textiles Award:
I found the photorealistic imagery so intriguing and would love to see it printed on garments. Pure poetry and pleasantly reminiscent of 90s deconstruction.
Student Illustration Award:
The mix of media, including lovely use of the humble graphite pencil, combined with the atypical fashion model and his faraway gaze, stood out as different.
Live Event Award:
It's such an exploding field at the moment and a nice earner for illustrators who can handle the pace so I'm sure we'll see this category grow in future. This artist captured a "read" of her subject while injecting charm and whimsy into the sketches which I found appealing.
Digital Creator Award:
The icy palette, minimalism and focus on the detail of the accessory communicated a strong dramatic narrative.
Social Media and Animation Award:
I appreciated the artist's consideration of the full package of sound and visuals. The fun illustration technique, attitude, punchy palette and thought provoking poster art in the background all worked perfectly.
